Logic Pro Losing Midi Sequence When Editing Overlapped Region

Recording midi with the preference set to "overlap" I have added notes to an existing region. It forms a new region on top. Good. I edit something in the new region the old one disappears. Or edit something in the old one and the new one disappears. Undo has save my life. What is going on? Is overlap the wrong preference? I wish to keep it as it's own region for editing and duplicating.

Overlap should work as you expect it to.
When you say a region disappears do you mean it's no longer visible or is deleted from the project?

If the Event List display level button is set to show regions rather than MIDI notes within a region, do you see both regions? (Regions in the attachment are not the same length)

Thank you for your reply. Of course I can't recreate this right now because it's a dummy project. As soon as I am in the middle of the next project with important regions, I'm sure it will show itself and I will make sure to look for both regions in the event list. I'll be back.

Ok. I am on a project for a client. I have inadvertently recreated the scenario, and I have pictures. Fig 1 shows a piano region highlighted, the event window showing the highlighted 6 bar region, and the undo window. Fig 2 shows the highlighted overdub 3 bar region on top, and overlapped and the edit window showing the same highlighted region. Now I decided to quantize the notes in the overdub, overlapped 3 bar region and the underlying 6 bar region disappears. Poof! Fig 3 shows the result. You can the undo window shows the action of the quantize and no deleted sequence and the event window showing one 3 bar sequence and the other 6 bar sequence is magically gone! Ta-dah!

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug. By the way I've been using Logic professionally since OJ was on trial.

I was wondering if anyone noticed my follow up. Having sequences deleted by editing an overlapping sequence is counterproductive to say the least. By the way, I meant OJ's FIRST trial.

This is a consistent issue. Happens every time. I was hoping the new 10.3.2 update might eliminate it. Nope. Happy (not happy) you're not able to reproduce the problem. I am on a latest iMac that is used for nothing other than Logic and Sibelius.
