Logic Pro 8 low mic levels

I have just started recording via mic in Logic after upgrading my computer (and moving from Logic 7 to 8).

Whereas I used to get quite a hot level on my interface with the rotary input knob at 12:00, I find that I need to dial the mic input knob all the way to 3:30 or so, and I still am not getting a level as hot as I used to. I could push the signal hotter through plug-ins in the input (recording) channel, but was wondering if there's any other setting in Logic that could solve this problem.

Audio line levels from external devices are similar to what they were in the past. The microphone I use is the same - a BLUE Kiwi - very low self noise and I like to run it HOT.

There is a section in the Logic 8 manual regarding audio preferences concerning "dim level". Even after reading about it, I am still unsure what it is or whether it may have an impact on why my mic level seems to be so much lower than they used to be. It's slider was at -20 dB, I moved it to -5 dB, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Anyone have any ideas?

The mic input gain is governed by your audio interface, not by any setting in Logic.

The ProFire 610 has a 20dB pad, engaged by pulling out the gain knob. This will reduced the input gain by 20dB, which is necessary if you're recording VERY loud stuff (horns, drums, screamers...)

This is only for dimming the output volume. It has nothing to do with input gain. It's useful when you want to turn down the output level, but turn it back up to exactly where it was before using a toggle.
