Hey - Sorry if this is not the right forum to post this in!

I'm trying to decide what Mac that will fit best for using Logic Pro X. I have the opportunity to buy one of these:

Mac Mini late 2012
Intel i7 Quad-Core 2,3GHz
4GB RAM (Will upgrade this right away)
Intel HD Graphics 4000 - 1GB
1TB HDD

or

iMac 27" 2015
Intel i5 Quad-Core 3,4GHz
8GB RAM
Geforce GTX 775M 2GB
1TB HDD

I'm kind of retarded when it comes to computers, so sadly I can't help myself in this.

Any help is much appreciated!

iMac will outperform the Mac Mini. And you'll want to go with 16 GB RAM eventually. Plus a fast external drive for libraries, media, project files/folders, etc.

But i7 has a FPU and will outperform the i5 with VIs and plugins. Get the iMac but get it with an i7. With an i5 it will max out on VIs and plugins pretty quickly.

You can get i7 or i5 options in either. But the data buses, the RAM speeds, other parts of the "system", not to mention lots of actual use on my part, show the iMac to be superior. But the difference between CPUs is very minor. Get the i7 for sure, but don't lose sleep over it.

I agree the differences between CPUs are minor for general use. But for DSP, I think they are quite significant. I have both.
