Which of the two following options would be better for Logic:
2.8Ghz single quad 3530 "Nehelam" or the
2.26Ghz 8 core 5500 'Nehelam" machine?

I would probably go with more cores as Logic does a decent job distributing the computing weight but who knows. If you don't do stuff that taxes the computer now that much then either would probably be fine. I'm still running an "old" 2.8 8 core machine from 3 years ago that rarely gets pushed.

Same here (mine's 2.5 years old).

To the OP, IMHO the "real world" difference will be most relevant if you are using taxing instruments like Omnisphere, or several multi timbral instances of Kontakt or Play.

Thanks for that, - I do use some hungry VIs, worst of which are the East West platinum etc... I'm slow to upgrade, still running the old G5, which is hopelessly inadequate nowadays for anything demanding!

A little OT: anyone have any real news in regards to East West releasing the Play engine in 64 bit? I love my EW samples but kind of stay away from them as I feel Play can be buggy with the 32 bit bridge.
