Hi, anyone out there ever experienced a major crash (as in not being able to open your current project ever again) just because you used the "join" command to merge the takes on 1 midi track?

Hey CSeye, thanks for the shoutback! I have an iMac 2.7 GHz i5, 24 GB RAM, OSX 10.9.4 running Logic 10.0.7, Focusrite Pro 40 w/ several Play instruments (Quantum Leap strings, etc) running on this project. I tried importing only the midi part of the non-functioning project and it seemed to work! (except for a few overlapping midi notes which I easily fixed) big thanks for showing me that command.....had never used that before, and so I was able to rescue a good 4 hours of work! One mystery still remains: why Logic would crash when I use command J to merge all the midi punch-ins on any particular track...that never happened before! It actually happened again w/ the rescued version of my project! Fortunately I saved it under a different name before trying that, so no problem this time. Thanks again, and lemme know if you have any insights about that command J situation.....

Very good to hear that the Project Import function worked for you. It can be a real life saver when recovering content from a corrupt project or for creative purposes.
What instrument is assigned to the MIDI track that crashes Logic when merging with "J"?
If it's a third party instrument, what happens if you temporarily replace it ( or do a Save-As, then replace) with a Logic instrument? Still crashing? Or not?

Good question! I just experimented w/ a different project which uses far less tracks and used J instead of command J and.....no problems! I'm still not clear on the diff between the 2, but last night I used cmd J on the same project and it crashed again! Only this time, I was able to reboot it. Still confused though.... both options appear to do the same thing on individual tracks, but I'm probably wrong about that. Any advice on that? Thnx again for bailing me out the other night 🙂

If various MIDI regions are selected on different tracks, use of ⌘J to "join" the regions will move all of them to one region on one track..
J (Join Regions per Track) will make one region out of all of the various regions on the same track or the selected regions on the same track.

Ah, so I thought!! Still it's weird that the project would crash and not reboot, isn't it? Could it be a bug in Logic Pro X? Just wunderin' if you know anyone else that has had that happen (?) Never happened in versions 8 or 9, hmmm.....
