Logic Pro 9 Master Volume flip out

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. I've been using Pro 9 for the last couple of years and have developed a problem with the master fader. For some reason the master fader has started to intermittently shoot down to zero during the play back of a project. Sometimes it has even gone to zero when I open a project up and I've then got to raise it to 0 db (or whatever) before I can begin work! Any solutions / explainations for this?

Yes. Lots of automation - some quite rapid - on certain tracks. I had suspicions it may be to do with automation but can't understand how the automation is triggering a fade on the (un-related) master fader!!!

By "master fader", do you mean the one that is literally called "Master"? Or the stereo output fader controlling the specific pair of outputs on your audio interface?

Is there a track in your Arrange Window for this stereo output fader? If so, check if there is any automation there. If yes, delete the automation or turn the automation mode to off.

If not, then the mystery deepens!

Hi Eli

I mean the "Master" fader channel (next to the "Output" channel) in the mixer window. It's this channel that shoots down to zero.

I'm not on Logic at the present but will check out wether this channel has somehow had automation added to it (if this is what you are referring to and is even possible). However, it may be worth pointing out that I'm using a Behringer controller along with logic and this highlights/ reads 8 channel strips at a time. If I get the master fader drop when a given 8 channels are highlighted and then move the behringer to highlight another 8 channels the drop on the master fader doesn't occur. I would have thought that if the Master had an automation applied to it in Logic then moving the behringer highlighted block of 8 channels wouldn't make a difference to the drop out I experience, yet it does!

Does this have any bearing on your understanding of the issue?

Before Logic X, I don't know if it was even possible to get the master fader into the Arrange Window (it is now in X).

I'm not familiar with the Behringer controller you mention, but it certainly could be th cause of some of the mystery. Maybe check and see if it is sending any MIDI automation that might be recorded in the Arrange Window somewhere. Or it might have to do with control surface preferences? You could try rebuilding defaults in the control surface prefs and see if that helps.
