Logic Pro 9 Memory error all the time now?

I did some major updates this week which included going to Snow Leopard and Logic 9.01. I'm also on a new hard drive. I'm now consistently getting memory errors on songs that aren't that intensive. The cpu meter is only at around 20%. Anyone else getting this? I'm going to go back to my old drive for a while most likely and see what happens there.

I have been seeing this same error as well... only on Snow Leopard, on systems that have lots of ram and lots of available HD space.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out what causes it yet (my system was reverted to Leopard)

Yes, I have plenty of ram and HD space. The project is using under 2gbs and I have 10gbs in my machine. Buffer is at 1028. I just booted up off of my old drive which is now mounted in a FireWire enclosure. I updated it to L9.01 along with a slew of other updates (it's running 10.5.8) and booted up one of the songs I'm mixing. Logic buffer at 64 and no memory error. I'll continue in leopard for a while on these songs to see if the error returns or not in the downgraded os.

No luck on this as of today. I went back to the old drive and am still having the error. I'm under 2 gbs memory. Also trying MOTU PCI 424 drivers vs. the apogee with no difference. This file has 3 instances of Play going. I realize that it could be anything causing this and it's anyone's guess.

2 gig isn't much if you are running larger Play samples. Logic, and the system can take up most of the 2 from the start.

I suggest you upgrade your ram to 8 gig. That is better for samples libraries...

Just a thought.

After doing mucho experimentation today I came to the conclusion that I can't run Logic up past around 1.8 gbs of ram without getting the error message. Forget closing a project and then loading in another one as the memory doesn't seem to get purged and then it loads in another project and the ram usage gets boosted. I could get rid of the message if I froze on exs grand piano, or, deleted omnisphere, which was actually muted and only had one instrument loaded, or deleting the 3 play instances which where running some strings. Either way, I had to lower the ram usage to under 1.7. Who here is running logic 9 and has the ram up past 2 gbs no problem? As far as I know I should be able to get up to 4 gigs.

I also opened up the project in L8 without issue, but, I know L8 has a lower ram footprint.

Finally, flex audio is turned off and I'm using native plugins and uad2 plugins, cpu meter way down.

Getting the same message periodically here on 12gb of ram. I have been ignoring it and going about my biz but it does make me wonder what I bought all this ram for! Running 9.1 and Snow L., 2.66 octo neth etc, etc. should be cool...

Hey on a related note, my system does not like me to save songs while playing back - something I have been doing for the last ten years. It stops playback and waits and then gives me an error message. Anyone else?

I'm curious as to how much ram other folks are getting out of L9/L9.01? I had a project today going that was using a little over 2 gigs, but would still get the memory error message. Are people actually getting close to 4 gigs without issue? If so I'd love to hear about it! thanks.

That is corect, because it is a _warning_, not an error message. And the warning is correct: you are slowly approaching the 4GB memory limit of a 32-bit application.

Well, I guess that makes me feel a little better. I still feel that what ever is going on with this "warning" is making things unstable, at least for me. Also, it seems I have to quit logic prior to opening up a new project as the memory deal is just too much for it and it crashes. How far can you get before issues? 3 gigs, 3.9?

It's in the activity monitor on the mac, not in Logic itself. It shows all the processes that are running and how much cpu, ram and virtual memory they are using. L9 gets funky (for me) around 1.8 gigs and seems to want to crash if things go beyond 2 gigs (of actual memory that is).

Ok - Huge amounts of gray hair sprouting today. This ram thing is a killer. For me the error message is as described. However after much fooling around it seems that Logic was crashing when I tried to do an offline bounce above 2-gig of ram usage. Below 2-gig - no problem. However it DID do the bounce when i did a real-time bounce. Like Dave -- to get Logic under 2 gig I had to get rid of Omnispere; PLAY didn't seem to be the problem. However it really does NOT take much these days to get over 2 gig of ram usage - this was not a big session in my mind. Huge bug here therefore running Snow Leopard, Logic 9.01 (by the way Logic crashed under the same stress running L8/SL too).

This alert has nothing to do with the installed memory! You are running out of address space, not memory. No matter how much memory you install, the address space is always limited to 4GB. If you instantiate more plug-ins than this, Logic Pro 8 just crashed, while Logic Pro 9 tries to give you a warning.

But more than 4GB still makes sense and Logic and certain plug-ins use it, search the forum for that...

Yes I know the memory allocation limits of a 32 bit app.
The problem is: projects that used to run smoothly in L8 now cause the memory alarm. After a while, without instantiating anything, L9 asks to save the work and then quits.
I figured L9 was more memory demanding so I upgraded from 6GB to 14Gb (I've been wanting to do it for a long time anyway) ...nothing changed.

...Back to L8

Remember the System Overload message we used to get when first opening a big project? Remember that after you hit play one or two times it went away after Logic had put everything into appropriate buffers?

This seems to me to be similar. Sometimes I get this warning and then it goes away. (While LP9 uses a little more RAM on load up, it gives some of it back to you as needed.)

If it does not, then truly I am running too much RAM usage. If you have this happen with smaller project, then it is a system specific issue, not a bug IMHO.
