Logic Pro 9 Metronome in triple meters

A frustrating part of almost ALL the DAW's out there (with the exception of Digital Performer that I know of) is all use the quarter note as the basis of the metronome. But when working in triple meter (6/8, 9/8, 12/8, etc.) this doesn't work. The tempo is usually written at "dotted quarter equals", so at a tempo of 100, each "click" should be one of two groups of three.

The only "solution" I've found is to manually draw in a region and draw in a note at G5 and C5 with Klopfgeist (or any other percussive source) on beats one and four, and set the Signature track to one of the triple meters. But the weird part is that the tempo has to be set 50% MORE than the "proper" tempo, that is "dotted quarter equals 100" actually has to be set to 150 for it to work properly.

Is this REALLY the only answer? IS there a better way, or "correct" way??

Thanks,

Marcel

Hey Marcel,

I think that is an ongoing issue - you're not the first to be frustrated by this.

I rarely write in classical 6/8 etc. I always use the jazz/pop world of a 1/4 sub-divided into 3 triplet notes.

Your work-around may be as good as anything.....
