Logic Pro 9 moving bar with option pressed does not work

Hello,

I noticed that in Logic 9 my old method of moving a bar without disturbing the rest of the lines beneath it, does not work anymore. Although in the manual it says it should: pressing option while using the lay out tool will let you move a bar without disrupting the rest of the lines after that bar.

The same goes for the new lay out tools: page break and line break.
They work, but when a bar is moved (also when holding option) they dissappear and everything is moved across the line and across the page.
And nobody explains the orange locks that appear on the left side of the page.

Anybody can help here?

Greetings,
Gerard

The option trick is broken, unfortunately.

The page break and line break tools seem inconsistent to me. I've been told that if you put a line break on every line it works - haven't tried it yet.

Orange padlocks indicate that you have formatted the page - they will disappear with the eraser tool or if you do a reset.

Thanks Doug for your quick answer.
This feature was very important functionality in Logic for me.
It is incomprehensible why it has disappeared.
Especially in larger scores it is invaluable.
I checked and the feature really is in the manual under 'to move one or more bars in a staff system down into the next staff'.
Do you maybe know the most effective way to let the developers of Logic know about this?

Greetings,

Gerard

I know it's in the manual.... I've gone through all of it pertaining to the score editor in recent months and tested everything (look for a video tutorial series soon on the Score Editor). It really is a nice feature, if it worked.

Regarding feedback to Apple, here is Steve Jobs personal number...😉

Seriously, I just use the feedback feature in Logic, under the main menu. Please point out it's broken!

Hey Doug,

On a related note - is there clever trick or modifier key that makes layout tool changes permanent?

I always seem to paint myself into a corner after I use the layout tool to get the bars lined up the way I want. I inevitably realize there's one more change I have to make back at the Arrange level. And if involves recording in a quick fix or extra note, or adding space in, or making a cut and moving something later or earlier, or merging some regions together, etc - bang - all my manual layout editing is gone. Is there anyway to make it permanent?

I realize this is more a personal workflow issue than anything, but maybe I am missing something?

Make a PDF and cut and paste them???? 🙄

Really, I've found nothing to prevent what you're talking about - and it happens to me as well. Ski posted something at Logicprohelp about setting paragraph signs at the end of each line - I tried that as well as page locks at the end of each page (both together) and things still move around. He may have been in something other than Logic 9.1.3 or have more insight on the technique. I'll try to find the thread and post back if I do.

Should anyone have a technique that works, please feel free to share.....

Update - here's the thread: http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=68121
