Logic Pro Multi-output instruments - add track button missing

Using Logic Pro 10.7.2 I'm trying to add a multi-output instrument, but I no longer get the + sign on the initial track to add extra channels. This seems to be with every plugin I have which supports multiple outputs. Specifically trying with Superior Drummer 3, but no other instrument seems to provide the button either. I can't see any option anywhere to enable or disable it either. What am I missing?

FFS I was looking in the inspector, forgetting that it appears in the mixer section. I'll be over here in a corner banging my head against a wall for a bit. Apologies to anyone who wasted any time at all reading this tripe.
