Logic Pro MultiTimbral Instrument Workflow hmmmm

so I have been in a bit of a funk regarding LPX's implementation of Multitimbral workflows. I watched this video

it still left me wondering how this could possibly work. I set it up but I could only record on 1 track at a time and it would record over the first recorded track. Is there a setting he forgot to tell us about? Just wondering.

Also, I have tried the create track > software instrument > multi etc. and that is kinda cool except that all the volumes / faders are connected. Meaning if I turn one up they all go up. Is that a setting that I am missing?

any help would be much appreciated. I use ALOT of EastWest instruments and would like to solve this soon. Unfortunately Protools 11 is really making this process easy but I don't want to use PT11 for composing. I like LPX for that..

My set up works as described in the very informative video.

Not sure about recording several tracks at once, but selecting a specific (aux) track in the Main window and hitting the Record key command allows me to build a piece of music one track at a time as expected.

You could create several software instrument tracks each with a separate instantiation of Kontakt 5 or whatever and each set to a separate MIDI channel. You'll be able to record several tracks at once this way.

Many options are available in Logic depending upon what you're trying to accomplish.

yes I see what you are saying about the record button. Its a hard habit to break to not hit or look for a record button. I wish he would have brought that up in his video. It would have saved me ALOT of frustration.

Next obstacle is to get Vienna Ensemble to work with this.. Im gonna try that now.

The Youtube link you show is not a correct method cause there are not separate multitimbral midi tracks where you record the midi data usually. The guy selects the Aux tracks but he has only audio monitoring (there is no "R" buttons there) hope you see that?

This is one of the "correct" methods with slight update regarding the volumes / faders locking.
1. Make 16th Multitimral tracks using the new Tracks dialog.
2. Load Kontakt as a Multi-Output Instrument instance (as shown in the video).
3. Create Aux Tracks via the "+" for each Kontakt internal Instrument.
4. Use the Logic Aux channels Volume & Pan instead of the Main Channel Strip (locked ones).

yes I saw that and answered in the last post. The way he shows it does indeed work. The problem is that we are trained to want to click that record button or look for it on the track it self. But his way of using the Multi setup all you have to do is click the track. It does record on all separate tracks with no problem. It is just REALLY un-intuitive and actually just dumb. But hey whatever LOL Not to mention I tried looking for automation and just couldn't find it. I found the standard ones (volume, pan etc) but not ones relating to the plug-in CC1 CC11 etc. Anybody?

I like your 2 option pertaining to mixing with the aux out faders..


But really in the end. LPX has terrible multitimbral implementation. Not sure why they did it this way. But maybe it makes since some how somewhere.

I'm sorry to say but it is some sort of a Monotimbral workaround which depends on the track selection. Note, the "R" track buttons behave as midi thru and they care for the standard midi channelization! For example you can not use the Logic Multi Player mode (enabled by the Logic Settings -> Recording -> Autodemix by midi channel ...) and arm multiple tracks and record & demix on the fly multiple keyboards (which play different Kontakt instruments) or some sort of advanced Environment Channel Switcher or Midi FX Channel Switcher which switches from one channel to another in real time!

But hey whatever LOL Not to mention I tried looking for automation and just couldn't find it. I found the standard ones (volume, pan etc) but not ones relating to the plug-in CC1 CC11 etc. Anybody?

I'm sorry, which plugin CC1, CC11 parameter do you want to automate - Kontakt instrument parameter ?
