So I have the Alesis Multimix 4 USB Mixer. I use Logic Express 9. I can't figure out how to do multitrack recording. I plug my yamaha keyboard into Line 2 and my mic into Mic 1. How do I "assign," you could say, each mic to it's own track? I want to be able to edit the piano and vocals separately so I can use different effects with each track. Does that make sense? How do I go about doing this?

First, have you selected the Multimix as your Audio Interface in Logic -> Preferences -> Audio?

If no, do it.

I do not know this USB mixer but guess that it gives you one stereo signal, is this correct? Then you need to pan the mic to one side and the keyboard to the other side on the mixer. This should shift the signals to the left and right channel.

Then, in Logic, use two mono (!) audio tracks. In the input menu of the first channelstrip choose one input for the mic, in the channelstrip of the second track choose the other input for the keyboard. Record enable both tracks and - record.

In case this mixer delivers independent signals, you do not pan on the mixer but just select the inputs where your mic and keyboard are connected.
