Logic Pro 9 Muting in Arrange Window

Was there a major change in how Logic deals with muted tracks in the arrange window? I used to be able to have an audio track, for instance, make a duplicate underneath it, and mute one of them. now they both get muted. Did I change a setting to make this happen. In the same vein, Instruments won't play from a muted track. I know that sounds obvious but you used to still be able to hit the keyboard and hear the sounds on a muted track.
It seems like now the arrange mute is linked to the mixer mute. but this wasn't always the case.

Any help is appreciated. This definitely a big workflow impedance.

That doesn't happen here, with Audio or Instrument tracks.

I can create a duplicate track, mute one, and the other plays.
I can also play MIDI via a muted track.

What version of Logic are you using?

Preferences>Audio>Track/Mute Solo

You probably have it on Fast, which mutes the whole Channel strip, not separate tracks
