Logic Pro New Sequencer in Logic Pro

I am really digging the new sequencer in LPX and I would like to use the sequencer to essentially use my TR-8S (Roland drum sequencer) as a sound card for the LPX sequencer. I have tried a number of set-up permutations to get the TR-8S to send midi and/or use the Piano Roll to arrange the sequence before recording the audio. Is this possible? What am I missing?
