Logic Pro 9 New to this part: how do I work with individual drum samples in Logic?

I've been using Logic for years for programming, recording, editing, mixing, etc., but I'm only now getting into programming drum grooves using individual drum samples (i.e. not entire loops). It's probably old hat for most of you, but I feel a little in the dark myself: how do I work with my collection of individual drum hits???

Program in MIDI and then drag each individual sample to the corresponding position? Nah, I don't think so. Do I need some sort of sampler software that can trigger drum hits from within Logic?

I feel like such a babe in the woods facing this uncharted territory (for me). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't say which Logic version you are using, but if it is 7, 8 or 9 your best bet would be to spend time with two Logic instruments - the EXS 24 Sampler as well as Ultrabeat, Logic's Drum Module. Personally, I start off by choosing some sounds and then program the patterns I want. It is always possible to change sound later on ....

kind regards

Mark
