Logic Pro 9 Newbie- Looking for controller-audio interface advice

First off I am new to the board and my name is Brian. I am not a recording engineer but rather a musician that likes to write his own music and record. I am looking for as simple way as possible to record at least 8 tracks at once in Logic 9. I need a compatible interface and sometime in the future a compatible controller. Price is sort of an issue but not a total deal breaker. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated.🙂

That one looks killer, only my mac has USB and Thunderbolt no firewire.

edit: I just saw they make a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter.

I just looked and thunderbolt interfaces for audio recording start around $4000. Ouch!

zoom make a little 8 track interface/controller that would do a similar job for about $800, no motorised faders though at that price.

I have seen the zoom R 24. The automated faders would really be a plus to have though. I like that about the Project Mix I/O, I am also entertaining the idea of just getting the interface now and a separate control surface later. Something like the M Audio Profire 2626 would give all the inputs I would ever need.

Both Presonus and MOTU make affordable budget 8 in/out interfaces that have solid drivers and work well with Logic.

And for the control surface, maybe you can consider something like a Novation Impulse 61 keyboard. They're a steal at $400 these days (IMHO). They have a variety of faders knobs and buttons that can be used to control various channel strip elements in Logic via Novation's automap software. It actually works fairly well and isn't too complex to navigate once you get into it. For $350 you'd get a keyboard controller and a control surface all rolled in to one. This may or may not suit your setup; it's just a suggestion.
