Logic Pro No record button for audio tracks in Logic X 10.0.7

I've been trying for two nights to figure out why there is no R button in the track header. When I use my Motu 828, it doesn't show up in the devices list, but the computer must see it because I can use it in Digital Performer. When I set input to Logitech camera or system in Logic, the R button still does not show up even though I can record in Audacity through the Logitech camera mic.
TIA

I know it looks like that, but I actually remembered to check that. 🙂
Searching on the net, I found other people with this problem, but they were using previous versions. Restarts have not fixed it. Don't know what to do now.

By the way, just looking at track headers I find no quick way to tell which is an audio track and which is a software instrument track. Any hints?

I was thinking that an incomplete signal path might kill the record button, but that's not so.

How to tell the track type from the header? The Icon I suppose.

I just found this solution from an old LUG posting: https://logic-users-group.com/forums/threads/where-have-my-track-buttons-gone.4046/

It could be that the tracks are locked, which will inhibit the record function. Note in edurbrow's second screenshot that the lock track button is not enabled, so there is no feedback on whether or not the track is locked, I think. Try enabling that button & see what you find.

That would be 'Protect'. No, none were locked.
The strange thing, and this hasn't happened before that I can recall, is that it is not seeing the Motu 828. I opened DP and it sees it just fine. I don't think there is any driver particular to Logic.
10.0.7 is the latest version, right?

I use an 828 with Logic and DP, often at the same time, with no problems, There is only one driver, it operates at the system level with CoreAudio, so it can't be specific to an application, but make sure you have the latest version from the Motu site.

Hello,

Missing Record button:
Is this happening with any and all LPX projects? Or just the one you're working on in your screens shots? What happens if you open a new Empty Logic template?

What happens if you uncheck Core Audio Enabled (Apply Changes), then click it back on (Apply Changes)?

MOTU 828:
Latest drivers? Sorry, had to ask. My 828 MKll has been a solid performer in all DAW (DP, Cubase, and Logic), all versions of OSX (since 10.3), even OS9. Weird!

Track Type:
Software Instrument tracks will not have an Input monitoring button.
