Logic Pro 9 Opening old projects

Logician
I put a lot of work into file management. I keep things tidy and don't move stuff around. Yet, without fail, every time I revisit a job as little as 6 months old... I get numerous missing file and error messages..... Native Instruments Kontakt is a major culprit here and I'm not assigning all the blame to Logic, but I'm bewildered how a computer can have such a short attention span. I mean, that's supposed to be their strength over us humans. Yet, I end up spending half an hour locating missing stuff for the machine while it sits there laughing at me. Is it something to do with an old project having been created in say, 9.1.1 and 9.1.5 having a fit? Or an update of Kontakt?
Does anyone else find this happening?

I believe the computer itself isn't to blame (usually). For years EXS24 has been able to locate audio files wherever you move them (usually) without you having to do anything. If an audiofile in your arrange is not where it should be, on opening the project you get a dialogue for Logic to search or for you to manually locate. So Logic handles this quite well, but it's down to the individual software IMO. I agree Kontakt can be a bit dodgy, but if you think that's bad wait until you need to use Final Cut Pro (X) and have to locate "missing" files.

EXS24 is always reliable..... but even Apple loops go missing and a search within Logic fails to find them. A spotlight search reveals their location and I shake my fist at the screen asking "If I could find it... why couldn't you?... why make me search manually?"
It's not something that's insurmountable... but I do shake my head when a client asks if we can revisit a job from a year ago.

A few observations:
If you haven't re-linked all your EXS24 instruments (particularly 3rd party stuff), then the instrument files may have wrong paths for all the samples and you'll be asked to locate them. Get Redmatica's EXS Manager or Pro Manager to fix this.

Re Kontakt: Did you maybe just upgrade to Kontakt 5? The files are stored in a different place so this could also cause problems.
