opinions about this used system please

I think I have found a really good deal at a local pawn shop on a used imac. I would love to hear opinions from the group about whether or not it really is a good deal though before I get it.

Serial #: qp8182340km
3.06 intel core 2 duo
6 mb cache
4 gig ram (this is max ram it will take)
1.07 ghz bus
10.5.8 os
chipset nvidia geforce 8800 gs
512 mb vram
24" display

Was originally marked $800, reduced to 700 over weekend. But a local apple tech told me he wouldn't give over 400 for it because older imacs get obsolete fast and are harder to find replacement parts for in case it needs repaired. So I told the pawn shop guy that and he said he would take 600. This system will be dedicated solely for music production, and I will be purchasing Logic Pro 9 for it as quick as I can.

All thoughts and tips will be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
Darlene

Oh, I forgot to mention that this was manufactured in May 2008. One nice thing about this one is that it still has a firewire 400 port, which is what I need for my fw-1884 audio interface.

By way of comparison, the current Mac Mini can be had from 600 USD, it has a much faster processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HD and has a thunderbolt connector, allowing you to use FW devices with an adapter cable.

kind regards

Mark

Thanks Mark. I guess I failed to mention that my audio interface (Tascam fw-1884) was discontinued a few years ago and Tascm only has drivers available thru 10.7 os. So one of the new systems won't work. That is an awesome option though if not limited by the interface!

Another thing to consider, this chip is the oldest supported by Apple, which is to say the first to drop off as they revise things. May not matter to you, just a heads up.

Thanks y'all! I've decided it'll be worth the wait to just sit tight until I can spring for a newer, faster, better system! I've waited too long for Logic Pro 9 to put it on a system that won't do it justice! Thanks again!!
