Logic Pro 9 panning problem

:brkwl:This particular track will not pan but merely changes volume when I try to move the flute to the left:

I don't know whether you can hear it properly as I don't think it includes the assets in the zip archives but it surely has to do with being a mono track which is not the way I set it up.

Anyway, changing any version of the panning really ruins the balance of the entire file.

Thanks,

Ed

Your output pan is over to the right.

BTW, with stereo tracks, the "pan" control is not pan, it is balance. So turning it to the right just reduces the signal of the left channel and increases the right. In order to actually pan a stereo signal you can use the direction mixer plugin.

Thanks again Pete,

I had been using the automation pan control but it doesn't do the trick.

So you are saying that the mixer should be opened and the right right circular pan should be adjusted? Will the similar inspector "circle" work as well?

I also find that the list showing the midi activity of the imported smf may mess things up and, in this case, the pans all have to be removed. And, yes, the volumes as well (I've changed CC7 to 11 and this causes less of a problem.)

I'm not sure what automation pan control is.

But your problem is I think that the pan on you main output is panned way over to the right. This should be central.

When you are in the arrange window in Logic 9.1.5., under "view" you click on
"Track automation" which opens up, in the "header", the options for volume and pan as well as other possibilities.

When you write, "this should be central", I assume you don't mean put the instrument in the middle of the orchestra but that would be the main means of setting the pan position.

But, that brings up another question: In the Inspector, the two levels at the bottom show different loudness levels and pan placement and can be set differently. They are set to stereo out. The mixer only shows one level and pan position.

The inspector shows two channel strips The one on the left is the one associated with the track you have selected, the one next to it on the right is the main output.

You also see these in the mixer, and any other channel strips you may have.

What I'm saying is the pan for main output should be central. This is, I believe, causing your problem. You can pan the flute wherever you like.
