Hello all. New to the group but been using logic for several years I guess my issue(s) is multi faceted, and seemingly complex at least for a guy who’s not an apple pro or a computer guy. If you look at my specs, you’ll see that I’m using an older version of logic and an older OS. The reason for this is because I didn’t want to run the risk of a newer operating system, not officially supporting my hardware, which is an apogee ensemble FW. I only use the Mac for logic and Photoshop and so I don’t really care about the operating system. I just want the professional audio and don’t have $2500 to throw down for a new ensemble TB at this time.
OK so moving forward. My machine has been acting quirky the past few months. (Sidenote: may have a virus, because when I am on my Google homepage and open a new window, it takes me to yahoo which I’ve read is a virus)
Enough with the preface… I have issues with plug-ins. Can’t say for sure when it happened but again, a few months back, I think the first manifestation was getting the dialogue window of “incompatible plug-ins” when I opened the program. I bought some plug-ins from Cableguys and was pretty excited but logic wouldn’t open it. All the specs check out and compatibility and it didn’t make sense and still doesn’t. It’s in the plug-in manager and reads “couldn’t be opened”. So I learn to live without it, and will just get to it. I have plenty of tracks. I need to finish and get mastered and I can’t stay stuck on new plug-ins…but fast forward to a few days ago, and then I started seeing the little (!) As if logic is just not seeing it. Some plug-ins I’ve had for years are all of a sudden not being seen in logic. And then others that are being seen cannot be opened. There doesn’t seem to be much method to the madness and it’s been difficult to stay patient with because some other quirky things within logic have been happening like notes and regions out of time and transposed and just weird glitchy crap. I know those aren’t technical terms but I’m sorry I don’t really know what to call it or to what to attribute it. I did a time machine restore and then got back to good a couple of days ago except they were still plenty of plug-ins, not being seen. And I don’t particularly remember any execution or command that precipitated like most of them being unreadable or at least with (!)… but it happened, and I was confused and nervous and a little pissed. So I started digging around a little bit and found one of the methods that has worked was when a guy took his components folders, and dragged it on to the desktop. Then rebooted logic trying to jog the search function of the plug in manager I suspect. Then you’re supposed to reboot it, etc. well, I even went so far as to put in my password into the dialogue to authorize the Mac to move the files, and then they weren’t there. They weren’t in the trash bin either and I couldn’t find them. Luckily I have my back up and I just dragged them over and dropped them back in. Rebooted logic, then rebooted the computer and all of that jazz. The plug-in manager clearly sees the plug-ins so they are in the right spot but most of my waves and other non-proprietary plug-ins are reading “couldn’t be opened” So I guess we have a few issues going on with the quirkiness and where files are and why aren’t they being seen and why our entire instrument plug-ins like serum not showing up and when it does it reads “this preset was made with a newer version of serum, update serum”. My serum is updated and I haven’t made any new patches in a couple of weeks. I know I’m all over the place and I do apologize for not having more consistent data but I have been in a sea of “WTF?!” for a few days now and in months before that with the quirky stuff
On top of that:because I have an older system I can’t boot in recovery mode to get the time machine button not grayed out so I can actually restore the damn thing to two days ago when everything was fine. I’m just on overload, so whether it pertains to logic or not, if anybody has any Yoda wisdom for me on Apple architecture on what HD and user directories do differently and yada yada. I just don’t know how to fix this situation. Any help would be appreciated it
And I apologize if I’m sounding negative or not entirely helpful. I am truly exhausted with this machine and now logic too. Thank you kindly
