I've been working on some ADR which requires the use of the vocal transformer to raise the pitch of some dialogue to make it sound more childlike.
The problem I'm having is that I can only raise the pitch by +1 or +2, and sometimes not at all, before it begins to sound really grainy and unnatural, almost robotic (and no I'm not inadvertently using the robotize feature). I've tried various combinations of formant and pitch change but to no avail. I have also tried using the pitch shifter plugin in speech mode and it gives similar results.
One thing that did seem to help was to change the grain size (located in the drop down menu at the bottom of the vocal transformer window) from 'auto' to a ms value but each section of dialogue required a different value making this a very labour intensive solution to the problem
Any suggestions other than using another piece of software (I can't afford it!) would be much appreciated.
