Logic Pro Record button missing in main window

The enable record buttons are missing in the main window on my audio tracks. Where did they go? How do I get them back? I have "advanced settings" checked in preferences, but I don't see an "R" either. What I see is the button for mute, freeze and input monitoring. In the track configuration menu, the record enabled button is checked. If this is something totally obvious, sorry! I will keep hunting for an answer. Hopefully I will be able to answer my own question.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I've been trying for three days to figure it out. Where would the device be unchecked in the preferences? Under Devices? My 828 does not show up in the preferences. My computer definitely sees it. I can open DP and it works fine. I cannot record from my Logitech camera either, though it shows up in Devices. I can record with it in Audacity though.
TIA

What version of OSX and Logic?

As trouble shooting measure, do you have a spare external hard drive to do a clean install of just OSX, the basic version of Logic Pro X (without all of the content), and your MOTU drivers? If it works, that's useful information...

This was all working a week ago. I don't really have any spare drives. I would be much more inclined to reinstall Logic X than OSX. I'm using OSX 10.9 Logic X 10.0.7.
Come to think of it, I haven't repaired permissions lately. I'll try that.

Well, I repaired the disk using Disk Utilities. The only item in red was "˜Incorrect number of extended attributes'. After rebooting, my Motu 828 finally appeared in the Preferences > Devices in Logic and after selecting it the record buttons appeared for the audio tracks.
But when I choose Logitech Camera again, the record buttons again disappear. I don't know what's up with that, but I can live with that.
