Logic Pro Record Failure

I have a problem that only applies to one project. The record feature doesn't work. Other projects work fine. I hit the * key and it records. On one file, I did something to it. I was trying to turn on an auto punch in and couldn't figure out how to do it. Now that particular project will not let me record, even in a new track. I have looked at the menu options but had no luck. Can someone tell me what to check to see why record now doesn't work for this particular project?
Thanks!
Doug

Asking obvious questions...
- The track is record- enabled?
- Do you see signal on the channel meter before trying to record?

If you need the content in this project but the behavior persists, then open a new Empty project template, next, open the file browser - letter F - navigate to the project you're having trouble with, then click on the Import button in the lower right of the project browser to import the tracks and content into the new project.

Thanks. Yes the signal is visible on the channel meter and the track is record-enabled. When I hit the * key, it looks like it will record, in that the counters all go pink and the numbers are changing in the transport area, until I hit the stop key. However, the track never displays a pink band and does not show any wave forms.

I will try your suggestion of creating a new empty project and copying the files, if no one can suggest a solution.

These instructions are good and reveal an area I have never used. I wanted to be able to import text and score settings and this shows me how. I guess this will be a work-around to my problem. I must have turned off some feature without being aware of what I was doing. Thanks.

Is your control bar and display set to Custom? If so, do you still have the autopunch button active? You would see a red bar in the time line. Otherwise, I'm not sure what happened in your project, Project do get corrupted and the Project Import function is a very slick way of restoring the content in a new project.

My control bar was set to custom. I changed it to beats and project and it revealed a record button. I don't see an auto punch button. There is no red bar in the time line. Thanks!

Hooray! I found a partial solution at another help site. The project is in Autopunch mode and the red bar was way beyond the end of the project. When I extended the stop control at the end of the project, I found the red bar. When I dragged the red bar to the beginning of the song, I could record in the area under it. How do I deactivate the red bar, i.e. turn Autopunch off? I see no button or menu command to do this. Thanks!

Click the downward disclosure icon at the far right of the display, select Customize Control Bar and Display. In the window that open, in the Modes and Functions area, check on Autopunch which places that button on the control bar. Autopunch is active when the button is red. Click it to turn it off.

Another way to go about this is to use the key command for Autopunch Mode which will place the button on the control bar if it wasn't there before.

Hopefully this resolves your issue.
