Logic Pro 9 Return Play Head to the In-Point

It's driving me nuts and is coming close to driving me back to Pro Tools for recording. Why, oh why can't I find a way to have the recording head return to the SAME beginning in point in subsequent takes WITHOUT enabling Cycle mode. The playback feature that does this doesn't work in record mode.

Here's the work flow. Bass player is trying hard to get a good take. Blows it in measure three. I stop the recording. I have to relocate the play head back to the in-point. Pro Tools can be set up to automatically go back to that in-point. So convenient. But I cannot find this feature in Logic 9.

Do any of you have an answer to this?

Thanks!

Try the "record repeat" key command. The way it works is like this:

1. You start recording, and realize part way in that you don't like the take.

2. Invoke the record repeat key command and the following happens automatically:
a) The current take is deleted.
b) The play head returns to the position recording started from.
c) Logic starts recording again from that original position.

It's a seamless workflow, Logic never actually "stops". Deleting the take, returning to the start position, and commencing recording again becomes a single fluid action.

In theory it's great, particularly if you are recording yourself. But if you are recording someone else, I have found that it takes a while for the talent to get used to it. Because it is almost "too fast". There's literally no time between deleting the current take and starting the new one. But once the talent wraps there head around it, it can be really great.

Right click on the play button on the transport and you will see an option to do exactly what you're talking about. It's called "play from last locate position ".
