Reverb help

i'm trying to add reverb to my snare and i realized i know nothing about reverb. I've been just kinda adding it without knowing what i'm doing.

should I add reverb to my snare at the very end, once my beat is done? or in the beginning when i'm programming drums? How do most people do this?

I usually add it towards the end of a mix, IMHO you need to get the snare sound right in the mix first before adding reverb. That said, every song or arrangement is different and what works for one may not work well at all for another.
