Logic Pro 8 sampling in the EXS24

I'm trying to learn the EXS 24 in Logic 8 and I was wondering if there's a way to adjust the start and end times of samples after I put them in the instrument editor, as their own zone? I figured I could just adjust the start and end times but that doesn't work at all. No matter where I set the start time to, it always starts at the same time.

I'm not sure if there is a way to do this, but if there is that would be great to know because right now I have to devote tons of times to making perfect chops and Logic doesn't seem to be that great for chopping samples.

You do it in the sample editor, accessed via the EXS24 editor.

Note that this is Logic 9's manual but that process is the same as v8.
