Logic Pro 9 SCORE multiple stave input

In previous Logic versions, it has always been possible (and preferable when working at speed) to input symbols etc by selecting multiple staves, then holding down the command key (giving you the pencil tool) as well as the shift key to allow you to enter a symbol across all selected staves. This has apparently been omitted from Logic 9. Now apparently the only way to do this is by first selecting the staves, then changing to the pencil tool - then inputting while holding the shift key - which takes considerably longer when you are doing this all day long! Can anyone from Apple explain this change? Or have I missed some new way of doing this? Thanks
