Logic Pro 9 selecting notes below a certain velocity

In the piano roll's hyper draw window, I cannot figure out how to select several notes below a certain velocity and move them. I could not find it in the manual. I can select one note and drag it, but how do you quickly (NOT shift clicking) select all the notes below a certain velocity? I don't want to set all notes to the same velocity, which is what happens when I click outside of a velocity event and drag. This is what is throwing me off because normally in Mac programs you drag over events to select them. I just want to select those notes that are out of the bell curve of normal and move them into the general population (sorry for mixed metaphors).

Use a Transform Set to select this kind of subset: Hit Command-4 to call up the Transform window, then you'll probably want to make a new Transform Set (Mine is called "Select < Velocity") with Status=Note and Velocity <= 64 (you can change that number to whatever you want each time you use it) then click the "Select Only" button. That takes care of your selection, now you can drag the selected group up and down in the Hyper Editor. HTH

Oh, sorry, it's not that obvious, is it?! If you click on the triangle next to the Presets you'll get a pop-up menu with "**Create Initialized User Set**" at the bottom. Select that and create your new "Select < Velocity" User set.

Now that I see it, its obvious. I missed it. It is right at the bottom. The old gray matter ain't what it used to be. 🙂

It works as expected. The only problem is that depending on the source material, the cut off velocity could be different every time, which would require reconfiguring the transform set. But thank you. Much faster than doing it individually.

Glad it was helpful. IMO reconfiguring the transform set is a minimal inconvenience - I just save it at 64 and type in the appropriate velocity to replace that each time I call it up.

Yes, that is fairly minimal. So, I call up the transform set and create a new one. It is saved in that project, but is there a way to save it so it appears in all projects?

I wonder if there is another way to do this. It just seems there must be an easy way to grab notes below a certain velocity and move them by hand, so to speak. No key combination? Almost any Mac program with objects lets you start outside an object and select a rectangle that contains the objects.

You're right! I haven't made new Transform Sets for myself since v.5, so I didn't notice that they're not saved universally. According to the manual, the way around this is to put your User Transform Sets into your default song template, which works OK I guess, if you remember. Oh, and you can import Transform Sets from other songs, so if you've come up with a few useful ones, then sitting down one day and importing them all into a fresh default song might be a good downtime project.
