Logic Pro 9 Sending files to PT on PC

Having extraordinary difficulty sending a set of 4 files from L9 to PT

Files matched to samplerate 48000, bitrate 24, tempo 120

All files starting at 1.1.1.1

Uploaded to Filefront.
Downloaded back to my mac, everything fine.

Downloaded to PT on PC:

3 of the files must be set to commence at 0 1 1 1 to work.
the 4th file is the correct region length and bit count, but the audio stops (flatline) less than a quarter way through. Confirmed with screenshot.

I haven't exported the region information, thinking that 1 1 1 1 is universal.

Any ideas why these are happening?

Also I'd like to know why the studio that recorded the album chose 48000 sample rate. Any advantages to this?

Hi Peter,

48k tends to be the sample rate chosen for audio that might be sync'd to video. Maybe that's why it was chosen? I believe their might be a slight advantage to 48k but it wouldn't be too noticeable once on a CD or AAC file.

Anyway, were these files of yours? If so, why not try bouncing instead of exporting? (or if you are bouncing, try exporting one at a time).

If it works, that won't answer why you're having this problem, but at least it's a workaround.

I bounced.
I did try exporting but got a blank file so dropped it for later investigation

thanks for the suggestion re 48000.
A colleague insists that 48000 for audio only is less effective than 44100 because of the processing needed to convert the master back to 44100

Not necessarily, although this was true in the past.

First of all, what is the final format? If it's a digital-only release that will go to AAC/MP3, it will not be converted to 44.1kHz. It can be mastered at 48kHz and then simply compressed from there.

Even if it is being mastered for CD, how is the mastering engineer doing it? When my album was being mastered, the mastering engineer took my 48k and 96k stereo mixes, then went analog and ran them through his tube and high end hardware processors, and re-captured the audio at 44.1k. So there was no degradation at all.

Also, these days sample rate conversion routines from the major players (Audio Ease, iZotope, Weiss) are absolutely excellent, so there should be no quality loss.

thanks Orren - I will ponder your reply re sample rates.

Meanwhile, whenever I try to Export Region as Audio File, I get a file with the correct byte count but zero content. I've tried several tweaks but with the same result.

Reading the online Manual, I have done everything correctly.

I attach 2 screenshots:
1. prior to export
2. post export and audition via Snapper

note that where the region is 38 secs, snapper returns less than 3 minutes.
( there is no scroll)

I'm bouncing as Wave already.
I'm also 'Exporting Region Information', but the files don't 'Spot' in PT ( on PC)

Should I be using OMF?

We're getting round it by simply using the same tempo and using bar numbers.
