Logic Pro Set tool problem

Hello

Trying to switch from Cubase to LPX...

Encountering a problem. I am from Belgium and have a "almost" French laptop keyboard. When pressing "T' the numbers 1 to 0 for tool selection don't work except when pressing the modifier 'shift'.

I did a search and found the "answer" for Logic 9 on the logicprohelp forum: search for "set tool" in the key commands editor.

Problem: in LPX I cannot find a thing in the key commands editor, no scissors, no glue tool, nothing....Only: "T" and next and previous tool.

I do have an external US keyboard and of course here the 1, 2, 2 etc... do work (after switching my keyboard to US both globally for de computer and the key commands). Except that even in this scenario there is almost nothing relevant to find when searching for "set tool" or "tool".

I know also that you can have a primary and alternative tool (command). The third tool is "option' invoking the zoom tool. Is it possible assigning "option" to another tool (velocity) for example.....

Hope someone can help me out,:brkwl:

French keyboards need shift for pressing a numeric key, on a laptop though you also have access to the numeric keypad via the function (fn) modifier key did you try that ? (i.e. fn+j is 1) ?

Indeed they need shift, but that is what I try to avoid. I would like to educate the keyboard shortcuts to behave for that row of keys as if it was an American keyboard.

A trick is of course to select Us keyboard both globally for the Mac and in LPX, but I am afraid that would mess up the other shortcuts...

I didn't try your other suggestion yet. But it doesn't solve the problem because again I would have to use a modifier key (Fn).

It's all about "speed" and efficiency...workflow 😉

Also: trying to mirror the workflow on both keyboards. I did buy a US external keyboard especially because my impression is that most applications are optimized for workflow on US keyboards. Seeing the hoops I have to jump through to get the same experience on a "French" (Belgian) laptop keyboard it "proves" my point.

And I am not even French, I am Dutch (Flemish) speaking, haha. We do use almost the same keyboard layout as the French however...Go figure

Hugo

P.s. before anyone asks: I don't have the external keyboard with me at all times...

Thanks 🙂

There is an app made specifically for remapping keys for Macbooks called KeyRemap4MacBook. I'm sure there's an option in there somewhere to do what you want.

Hey,

I Downloaded and installed it. Inverted the functions of the numeric keys on my Macbook so I don't have to push shift any more to hit the numbers.

Made a profile "Logic" and it works...

Thanks a lot,

Hi Hugo,

FTR, all the "set tool xxx" commands are available in LPX. Type in "tool" in the key commands search field and they will all come up.

Also, just to clarify: Option is permanently assigned to the zoom tool. Add the control key to this when zooming over a region and not a blank area (otherwise you will simply copy the region). The third tool is the one that is optionally enabled in the prefs for the right mouse button.
