Software Instruments

I have Logic Pro 9 studio including the Jam Pack Sets, but still feel short on sounds for creating original loops in dance genres. Particularly short on synth hits/stabs.

Is there software out there that can be bought and used in logic?

Please use this thread to share ideas for software instruments for purchase and free & ideas about how to build your sound library. 🙂

The type's of sounds you are talking about can easily be made (and there are even some presets) in Logic's built-in synthesizers...

Check out some of the Synth sounds and chords in EXS...

Boy, can you imagine how big the sample pack would be for every sound available? Egads!

The included softsynths are very nice, very capable and very programmable. It helps to know how to program them of course, but it's mostly learned by just noodling and listening to the changes you're making.

Alot of different software can be bought and used in conjunction with logic. Logic 9 by itself is the best bang for ur buck in terms of kits, built in plug ins and generally the amount of things that it can do.
Aside from this, plug ins and soft synths can be bought. personally, NI's selection of plug ins are incredible, kore, komplete etc. noramlly for a beginner in logic, es2, exs24 and ultrabeat are a good way to start, all the other synths with vocoders and etc like evoc and sculpture take a bit long to learn, but once you learn it everything works fluidly. and all can be midi mapped to ur controller. personally, NI has a very good selection fo plug ins. no complaints. also, from native instruments' website u can download trials of certain plug ins, like Reaktor and guitar rig.

If u feel uve used all of logic to its limit, then go ahead and buy. logic on its own is amazing, and taken for granted, it does so much if looked into 🙂

best of luck!

The "broken keyboard" wasn't meant serious. I see this kind of writing quite often. In my language this is not common at all. The most we do is to replace a whole word by another word that sounds similar but has a different meaning and even that is seldom.

We write you've as uve
It is not generally common in English. Is it rather an idiom to show that the writer belongs to a certain group? Which group is meant when you say "we write this way"?

(Sorry for off-topic but I am curious.)

the words 'age' and 'showing' spring to mind, Peter! lol

to be honest I dont think it matters how people spell something what matters is the meaning (the whole concept of 'correct spelling' is a relatively modern concept to start with - until the invention of the dictionary everyone spelt things how they liked. Shakespeare spelt his own name in several different ways - and whats good for Shakespeare is good enough for me! lol)

ps - since we're all being 'off-topic today: re the responding by email complaint: is it not possible to make it so that people can reply to an address which automatically posts on the forum thread?

EEK!

we meaning teenage americans lol
No peter ahah. we normally type and text message this way because its faster and more efficient

lol its not just teenagers who are writing like this you daft bugger! people invented text speak before you were even allowed a mobile phone!

(the wierdest thing is how every single group seems to believe they invented language and noone else 'gets it' and is out of the loop)

hello chaps - we're all in this together!

Anyway! Back To The Future!

I personally prefer making my own - good idea to spend a session doing nothing but noodling around creating weird sound effects, adding effect plugins and then sampling/bouncing the results to create your own library of sounds (like we used to do back in the day!)

Good starting point is to take short samples from old records - stabs/brass stabs/string hits etc and then mangle them using the plug ins - try to do something that noone else has done before. Another good idea is to take the samples youve taken and then splice the attack portion of one onto the decay portion of another (kinda like LA synthesis used to do) or just layer two or more together. More importantly have fun!

Alternative is to buy one of the many great Dance sound sample CDs which have great sounds - only problem with this approach is that you end up sounding like everyone else if ur not careful....(sic) (lol) (and no that doesn't mean 'good')

Hoorah!
