Logic Pro 9 Song won't load ultrabeat custom drum kits

First off, I know how to load samples into ultrabeat and save my custom drum kit using "save as" then name the kit, afterwards the kit is displayed in ultrabeat. Trust me I know how to do all that. The problem I'm having is when I take a wav file that's on my desktop and drag into ultrabeat then save it as a drum kit, then save the entire song, then everything works fine. I Reload the song and its just the way I saved it. But if I move that same wav file that I used in ultrabeat into a folder on my desktop, then when I load the same song, it won't load up the ultrabeat kit unless I manually find the wav files that I used to create the kit. Once I manually find all the wav files that I used to create the custom drum kit in ultrabeat then the song will finish loading. The only way I can avoid this Is to leave the wav files on my desktop and not put them in a folder, then the song loads up with no problem. Which means I have the wav files piled up on my desktop. What's going on? I thought once you saved drum kits in ultrabeat, they are permanent. Help me please!:brkwl:

Ultrabeat needs to be told that path to the audio files. If you then move them elsewhere, it won't find them. In other words, don't move them.

I would suggest, the desktop is not the best place to store them. If you have a seperate drive dedicated to samples(you haven't mentioned any system details) that would be a better solution.

As far as my system I'm running iMac 27" i7 quad core 4gb ram, 1TB hard drive. I have a 1TB external hard drive for time machine back up. Logic pro 9, apogee duet.

Or as another suggestion, make a folder in your documents folder, call it "samples". Drop any samples you want to use in Ultrabeat into it, THEN make your instruments/kits. As long as those samples don't get moved, you are golden.

So what you are telling me is that any song that I have created which involves samples or wav files on my desktop will end up the same way if I move them from my desktop? If I create a sample folder in documents folder and move all the samples and wav files from the desktop into it, will I encounter the same problem with these songs that used the samples and wav files that was on my desktop? I have other songs that use samples and wav files from my desktop but the samples and files are in folders on my destop. But on this particular song the samples and wav files are not in a folder, they are just sitting on my desktop as music notes. If I put them in a folder that when I have this problem.

What I am suggesting is, don't have the samples on your desktop in the first place. Having your files organized before starting to work in logic is sensible.

I guess I have bigger problem with file management. I never liked that I had my samples all on my desktop anyway. I just didnt know where to put them without getting confused. I have had my iMac and Logic 9 for a year and honestly this is my first computer so I decided to do it big the first time around. But I have gotten much better and I understand folders and files...something I didn't know at first. So how do you have your wav files organized? How about your songs as well?

Well, my main computer is a Mac Pro with 4 internal S-ATA drives. Drive one has Mac OSX and programs installed. Drive two is for audio files - and most of my work with logic involves audio recordings, live bands both in studio and on stage, so this in a sense is my most critical drive. Logic Projects are kept on this drive, organized in folders per project, with subfolders per song, these in turn have the standard Logic folders for audio, bounces etc. Drive three has sample libraries, factory samples such as Logic's, or Kontakts or EWQLSO are in their own folders. Drive 4 has Video and Photo, again organized in project folders.

Externally, I use seperate HDs to back up each of these, connected per FW 800 to the Mac, as well as an extra time machine drive connected per USB. THat makes 5 external drive. On top of that, I have some rotating drives for off site back up storage of critical material.

My second computer is a Mac Book Pro 17", the internal HD has Mac OS and Programs, as well as parralels with Win 7 32 bit. I do keep some user files on this HD, but again, for audio work use external HDs, FW and S-ATA running through an adapter in the express slot, as well as USB for backups.
