Logic Pro Sound Library management

I use Logic Pro for recording at home, and I keep the full library on an external drive to save boot drive space. A few times a year I'll take my laptop out and use it to play a gig using Mainstage, which requires relocating the sound library back to the boot drive. Has anyone found a way to trick Logic into swapping Library locations easily to do this? So far it seems like at a minimum I have to re-download the basic library every single time I switch from one Library to the other one, duplicating data that I've already downloaded countless times. The Library Manager is virtually useless, since it cheerfully informs me that library files already exist on my external drive, so as a consequence it's greyed out as an option when I try to Relocate. It seems like it should be way easier to make a computer app just switch databases!

Interesting topic. It's though not clear to me if you mean you're using two PCs, a desktop at home, and a laptop for the gig.
If so why can't you plug your external drive into each pc each time and keep using the library where it is, or does mainstage not support external disks?
Sorry, I don't use mainstage. If this question is mainstage particular, then please ignore my reply.

Sorry I didn’t make that clear! I use one laptop for everything, and it seems unnecessarily awkward to switch back and forth the way Logic is designed. Also, to clarify, Mainstage uses the same Library of sounds and softsynths as Logic, but your post is a reminder that maybe I should post this in the MainStage forum as I’m more likely to find others with the same issue there, so thanks!
