Staff Benda Bilili are a group of paraplegic musicians living around the grounds of the zoological garden in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. That's where most of the songs of the album were recorded. The equipment used was a MacBook Pro 15", a RME FireFace 400 soundcard, a RME ADI8 AD/DA converter, a rack of 16 preamps by Malcolm Toft (of Trident fame), and 16 microphones, among which a Neumann U67 which behaved flawlessly despite humidity (maybe the heat from the tube inside helped to dissipate it)... The mix was done entirely in the box using the MacBook running Logic Pro + Sonalksys and PSP plug-ins. The monitoring was done with Genelecs 1030s.
