I Just got the upgrade from SSD 3.5 ex to SSD 4 ex last week for a whopping $29 mostly out of curiosity. Well, I have to say that I love these drums! This is coming from someone who owns bfd, bfd2, 95% of toontrack's library and all the NI stuff. Now I'm on a mission to get the Platinum version. The thing that surprised me was how sweet they sound without any processing. They just sound great "as is." The cymbals are extremely nice as well. Overall it's a great library.

I agree - I've got SSD Platinum 4 and it sounds great. BFD2 is still wonderful for a variety of drum sounds, but when you need drums immediately to sound good 'out of the box' SSD4 is now my go to.

Is it easy to use? I am a long-term BFD user and still use BFD1 as I find BFD an over-complicated mind-f~ck! Is it just me, or do you just want a drum-sampler to feed the raw audio straight to your own software tracks so you can route and effect them in your own environment with your own choice of plug-ins? I hate the internal routing in BFD2 and don't need the frankly pretty limited in-built plug-ins and confusing internal-mixer.

I'm also a loooonnnnggg time BFD1 and BFD2 user and yes, it's dead easy since there are no fx. The internal bleed controls are very limited meaning you can't have the kick drum bleeding into the snare, etc, but, I don't care as the actual drum samples themselves are simply stunning. So, as I go through the presets I feel like there is very little I need to tweak. But, since I've had it for a while I'll usually output the snares and kicks into a master snare and master kick bus in logic and do a little eq/compression to taste. Assuming you qualify and they're still offering it, the $100 crossgrade price is a fantastic deal.

Is it just me, but I always think the demos on the websites sound pretty obviously fake, but that doesn't mean they won't sound better when you really get stuck in in your own time... I have braved BFD2 today and found it not as complicated as I remember but VERY cpu heavy.

Yeah, I'm never I pressed by any of the demos. It's all in how you use them and if it works for you. I'm still thrilled btw with slate and am boring my clients by talking about how much I love my new samples. The CPU footprint is very low btw since there's no major processing happening. I would still recommend anyone who has a completive product to get the upgrade deal on the cheap $30 version. I did and them immediate upgraded to Platinum.
