Suggestions for bouncing tracks

I like to listen to a song I'm mixing in my car before I give it my blessing.

I was bouncing to mp3 but wondering if it would be better quality as ACC.

any suggestions or opinions?

Also I seem to think that if I burn a disc and play it in my CD player it'll be better than just moving the file into iTunes and synching my iPHone then running my iPhone into my car receiver.

Seriously is there any difference between listening to a CD I burn in iTunes and plugging in my iPHone to the car receiver?

any suggestions welcommed

An ACC will usually be of higher quality than an MP3 of the same file size.

If you're copying an uncompressed 16 bit audio file to your iPhone, whether that is better or worse than a CD made from a 16 bit uncompressed version of the same file will depend on the quality of the converter on the CD player in your car versus the converter on your iPhone.

Hi Robitaille59,

My personal opinion: Don't stress over stuff like this. If your mix is good it will sound good in all these formats. If it's not good, or you are not happy with it, you won't be happy with it regardless of the format, or whether it's played through your car stereo by way of CD or by way of iPhone.

My advice - listen in the car. Whichever way is easiest (iPhone or CD), it doesn't matter.

Having said that (I hate that expression!🙂), if you do use mp3 files, render them using the highest resoloution (320 kbps).

Thank you to both of you. I have decided to bounce my song to a 24bit ACC in Logic then move it over to my iPHone then plug that in to my car stereo. Between my car stereo and the Genelecs that I mix on I'll give it my blessing.

My current client likes for me to burn a disc and send them in the mail. Once the songs are in iTunes and I start to burn an Audio CD for my client, should I use "Use Sound Check" feature? It says it's suposed to automatically adjust my volume levels but I'm not sure if I want that extra step.

Any opinions?

I wonder if iPhones can decode 24 bit ACCs? My understanding is that IOS 7 won't deal with any more than 16 bits on playback, and may not even load a 24 bit audio file. That might have changed recently.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if the file is still 24 bit once it gets into my iTunes. When I bounce it in logic I select the 24bit option but iTunes has to "import" the file so it may be doing some conversion to 16bit.

I would not be surprised if IOS7 was set up to not play the 24bit ACC files because I read that the iTunes music store will soon be charging an extra dollar for some higher quality files. I think that higher quality is going to be the 24bit version. So that limitation of iOS7 would prevent people from getting a competitive advantage by offer the 24bit at the same price as someone elses 16bit.

ON the server side of the equation I've also read that to upload a track to the iTunes music store it must be 16bit...makes sense so they will probably launch the "HD tracks" for a dollar more per song at the same time they roll out a new version of the iOS.

But anyway I'm with Eli that I'll not be worrying too much about this and just put the file on my iPhone and plug it into my car stereo.
