Logic Pro 9 Sweet New Tool Feature

Hey All,

Just stumbled onto a sweet new tool feature I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. It's not even in the pdf manual - as far as I can tell anyway...

There is now an additional preference setting for the right mouse button. In addition to having it used to call up the tool palette, or the shortcut menu, or to assign it to a specific tool; you can now have it call up a combined tool palette and shortcut menu all in one. Very cool!

And don't forget the click zones for the pointer tool, either. Those are incredibly sweet new tool features too! 🙂

That right mouse button thing is great, but it's tricky getting out of the habit of reaching over to my escape key! 🙂

Orren, I agree the new click zones are also truly interesting but it is worth to mention that they are still directly available otherwise with key modifiers: ctrl+shift with left click mouse for the fade tool, command left click for the marquee 😉

Absolutely! It's all workflow preference. Personally I use long left-click + option as copy/drag all the time, so using the click zone for marquee is a lot less confusing. But that's just me. 🙂

I love the new pointer tool features as well. I find though you have to work at a fairly large zoom level for ti to be effective. Otherwise you're clicking the window and getting the marquee tool when you don't expect it. So,IOW, this will help Apple sell bigger monitors 😀

I actually don't use the right mouse button function assignments in Logic. I assign it in the system preferences specifically for Logic for it to act as a click hold. So, when I am dragging regions around, I don't have to keep my finger on the mouse.

Otherwise you're clicking the window and getting the marquee tool when you don't expect it.

I'm in Eli's camp - I find the switch of tools to be irritating for my work style. It doesn't change where I want it to. I'll keep the marquee tool assigned to the command key. But more power to those who can use it. And since it's a preference, to each his (or her) own.
