The Transform Crash

logicblog

Logician
Hi all,

I'm on 10.6.7 - Logic 9.1.3 (1697.87 32bit)
MacBook Pro 2.66 i7 8Gb RAM

Try this. Doubleclick a MIDI region, then edit some notes in the piano roll.
Make a selection of notes, then select Functions>Transform and click
'Fixed Velocity'. In the Transform window, drag the velocity up.

Does Logic Pro crash? For me it does everytime. This has been pointed out here and I wrote about it on my blog here.

Just so that you know! I'll post a crash report in a reply.

Cheers.

I wasn't able to get logic to crash here trying to follow these steps. Perhaps you could go into some more details, or even better, post an example project here that is causing crashes on your machine.

thanks and kind regards

Mark

Pete,

Could you try a couple of times please?
Over here, I'd say it crashes 8 out of 10 times. I have all notes selected in the piano roll,
and I access the transform window through the piano roll window (Functions).

Thank you.

I'm no expert on interpreting crash logis, but looking through what you posted, one thing strikes me, which also refers to one of the system details - is Pro Kit up to date on your system?

kind regards

Mark

I noticed that for me , this transform crashing happens only with logic's own transform presets.

Try to make a preset your own, use that on a midi region and see if crashing still happens.

If not , then you could copycat logic's presets to your own presets.

Not the most beautiful option however ; apple really should conform this bug and repair it asap.

Best,

Rob.

I noticed this behavior too starting a few months ago, and simply forced myself to double-click and enter a value rather than dragging. Lately, after finding this thread, I've tried dragging again, and now it momentarily "freezes" for the first digit up or down, but then will drag normally again afterwards. Weird!

The drag crash has definitely NOT been consistent, however. In a new project, dragging almost always works properly, but once I've created a bunch of MIDI clips, the crash will come back. For a while, it would only crash the projects which had MIDI data and instances of Kontakt inserted. Non-Kontakt projects would not crash.

I'll try vanhaze's suggestion of saving my own function and see if that solves it for good. Either way, I would love to see an improvement in the way the Transform Functions system works in the next version of Logic!
