but it isn't! The directory path checks out for my permissions and I have repaired permissions, too.

Why can't I change gain on this audio file???

The only thing I can think of and don't see mentioned here is the permission of the file itself (instead of the directory it's in).

The repair permissions utility won't help much in this case, it only checks system files.

There was a bug which would do this to audiofiles if recorded with a cycle, ie after flattening the take. Usually a reboot would fix this.

Otherwise a workaround might be to copy/convert the audiofile, or (more drastically) copy the project ("save as" with assets into a new folder)

Maurits, sorry, I wasn't clear: permissions for the file itself was also checked

Pete, this file was a wav import from a PT session - perhaps there's a bug there? It\s happened once before in the same batch of projects.

In any case, copy/convert the file will probably work - ISTR that's what I did last time.

You might try opening the file with something like Soundhack or Wave Editor and check the headers for the file. Wave Editor has a repair function that is kind of nice.
