Logic Pro 9 Three regions on same track=no page view?

I have 3 regions on one track that cannot be combined because of triplet quantization and the score editor only shows the first region in page view

As can be seen only 2 pages show up in the score, I can't figure out why this isn't working as usual. In scroll view it displays correctly. The second region and third region become de-selected very soon, also unlocking the track didn't fix this.
Any ideas gentlemen?

I received a notice that georgelegeriii[sic] had posted a reply. I see no reply on the web site. His answer was to select all 3 regions before opening the score editor. I have enough experience with logic to know that and if it worked I would not have asked the question. But thanks for trying to help.

Any others want to give it a try?

Agreed the screen shot isn't revealing anything.

I do this all the time and you should get the regions to show up in page view. Are you viewing at the proper level?

Consider posting file as well.

Thanks Colin and Doug, sorry to reply so late-health problems,fixed now. I don't see how I could post a screen shot that shows more clearly what I described in the text-3 regions, the last two of which become un selected very easily, and the bottom of the 2 pages in page view in score editor that show the 3rd page isn't being shown. Should selecting the track select all regions on it? Back to the manual for me!

Addendum-I am subscribed to this thread but got no notice of the replies after George removed his, I hope the system works still, and I will just check back to see if there is a reply.

Hi David,

Here's an idea:
Selecting a track will usually select all regions on that track....UNLESS you have a cycle (repeat) enabled. In this case, only the regions within the cycle start-end will be selected.

Maybe that's the problem?

Without seeing any bar numbers on page two it's hard to tell what is shown, thus the problem for me initially.....

I still think it could be a layer problem - double click in background to go up to top layer. You could also change the link button to purple, which should show all regions at that level.

Thanks yet again, guys. I found the problem, it was in my head, I should have used "single instrument view" Logic Notation Guide Page 18,I can't find this in the online manual but you know me. It works by using the alt key and clicking on the "all Instruments bar upper left above the inspector and choosing the track name you want to see the score part of, this also corrected the problem of only the first region on the track being selected-now all regions select when I click on the track header.Once more-thank you both very much.

Hmmm.... This still doesn't make sense to me. I'm glad it worked but you shouldn't have to do that, unless perhaps you had created a score set that somehow excluded the information you wanted to see (and I'm not sure you could do this). When you option click on the score set popup menu and select one of your MIDI tracks, you are in essence creating a temporary score set for that part.

If you don't create score sets for your tracks, it's something you should consider.

Thanks Doug, you are right, I do not pay enough attention to score sets or staff properties.
I will consult Prischl and see if I can improve my workflow. I didn't even realise that by option clicking on the score set pop up I was creating a score set, I assume there will be a reason that this is not the right way to create a score set.

That method of creating a "temporary" score set (my term, not Apple's) is an OK way to work. Caveat: you may be creating score sets without realizing it - having a region(s) selected in the arrange area and then opening the score editor via key command creates a score set of the tracks containing the selected region(s).

If you're not doing separate staff styles for each instrument, that's even more important, especially when it comes to unique formatting for the part or its placement in the score.

Thanks again Doug. I have done some study and found on page 987 of the operator's manual a section called "Filtering single Instruments from the score"which to me reads:" You can quickly extract a single instrument from the score, by choosing it from the pop up menu that appears when you Option-click the Score Set pop-up menu.
This way, you don't need to create a score set for every instrument in order to produce
parts. You should note, however, that only the track instrument names are used as
instrument names in the score. So, if you use this method for printout of your parts, you
see the real instrument names of the Arrange window track instruments."




That desribes what I had been doing when alt clicking on all instruments. No matter, there are obviously more paths to the woods than one, so I don't think I can save time using any other method, thanks again for the great help.

David, you've taught me something I never knew about Logic's score.
There's always some "hidden" tricks going in Logic and unless you wade through the entire manual page by page, you may never know them all.

Hi Colin, I must thank you again for playing those triplets in on a keyboard and posting your event list. The one bar region in this piece is that set of triplets. It does surprise me that I may have shown someone so experienced a new Logic trick. I didn't get there alone, Doug's replies have driven me to get to work, and it seems to be working.

Welcome for the help. If that part extraction technique works for you (and it does for many), go for it. I'm a little set in my ways and prefer to make a score set for each part. One advantage is you can name it differently from the track, as well as the other score set parameters.

If you do large scores, you may well find it useful to use score sets for viewing: one for strings, one for brass, one for flute and strings, etc.

Glad to see you're motivated to spend some time with it.

Hi Doug, Thanks again. I don't actually do all that many large Orchestra scores, more small ensemble stuff. But you are right, I need to learn to set up properly before jumping in with adding notes to score. I am always motivated, but am often sick[literally] I spent December 6th until January 4th in Hospital and didn't want to chance having my MBP stolen so got nothing done in Logic , the there came 3 weeks of Physical therapy rehab[ I was so sick that I couldn't even feed myself] if FATE had not left me here I would have died in the gutter in Austin,here the month in Hospital including 12 days in Intensive Care Unit cost me €20!
I apologize for hijacking now this thread, but we are finished with the subject and I just watched your EXCELLENT EXS Sample video at Groove 3-great work, no hands or heads in the way,very nice music too. I am always trying to get the EXS to sound the same whether it is played back by the sequencer or by my Akai EWI. The strings sound very natural with the wind controller, but the reeds loose their reedy timbre. Any quick thoughts on why my set up of the EXS would favor string sample sounds over reed wind instrument sample sounds?

I would love to say thank you for such a nice remark and take full credit, but Eli Krantzberg, the author of that DVD series, would find some way to get even with me......:angryfire:😀

I'm not clear on your EXS problem - suggest you start a new post and see what answers you get. Could have to do with the patch, with breath controller info, etc.

Sorry Doug, I saw the link on your reply and assumed the videos where from you, you have given me a lot of help over the years, some or most when you were helping others.
The great medical coverage is a left over from a SOCIALIST past-no telling how long it will last. It turns out that the electorate here isn't any less clueless than in Wisconsin, or Texas.
