to upgrade to 10.8 or 10.9

I have a friend who is wants to upgrade to be able to use Logic X.

He's back in 10.6.8. Should he upgrade to 10.8 or 10.9?

He's concerned about stability issues, mostly for his third party plugins, audio interface (RME fireface 800), stuff like that. He wants to use VE Pro to host his 32 bit plugins too.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I moved from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3 after testing on an external drive for a few weeks, currently on 10.8.5.

I'm in no hurry to move to Mavericks just yet, I do have it on an external drive.
