Total Newbie question about DB25 mic in

I'm starting to look around for a DB-25 to XLR cable for the mic ins for a ULN-8, and have the world's dumbest question:

Should the XLR ends of this cable be male or female? I'm going to use a snake to get from the mics to this cable, so it seems I could go either way, depending on how I make the snake cable.

Basically, what's the traditionally 'correct' way to make this DB-25 to XLR cable?

And any recommendations for the highest possible quality cable? Opinions about Cardas cable for this application?

Hi Robert,

XLR inputs are always female.

I have no experience with audiophile cables; I prefer Mogami, personally.
