Transient Design

Hi All,

I've recently ben trying out the freeware version of SPL's Transient Designer (it's called Attacker) and really like it - on all kinds of material - not just drums. I used it yesterday on an organ and it really gave it some nice punch.

My question is this: What _exactly_ is a plug in like this doing that is different than setting up a compressor with a really short attack and short release, and fairly strong ratio setting?

It would be interesting to compare wave forms of a file processed with a compressor vs. Transient Designer.

What about compression with a slower attack that lets the transient slip by before being squashed? This seems to help emphasize the attack.

The UAD or Sonnox versions are on a list of things to look into.
