Logic Pro 9 Try to change tempo

Reading the manual says go to View, Global Tracks. Then with Pointer tool while holding down Control, Option and Command click and hold. Change the tempo and press Return. Everything works fine until I press Return. Then tempo doesn't change. Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I just tried that method for the first time ever, and although it worked for me, (clicking on the tempo line at the appropriate point opened a data field with '0' in it, and when I typed in a new tempo and hit Enter it adopted the new tempo at that point) it seems clunky and inexact to me. I have always used the Tempo List instead: click on the 'Lists' icon in the upper right corner of the Arrange window, then select the Tempo tab and enter tempo changes at specific bar/beat locations.
