Logic Pro 9 Trying to edit an imported audio file

I've imported a sent mp3 into Logic and find I need to reduce the gain at the very beginning only.So I open the sample editor of the track through the window menu, elect the waveform area and choose "reduce gain".

Whereupon it informs me that it won't do it because the file is locked. I've tried unlocking the original mp3 using the info window but nothing works.

Very frustrating!

Put it on the time line and make a copy.

Or convert to different format in the app of your choice.

I'd forgotten that I solved this once before by merging the region and so doing, I created a new file.

Open the audio bin, select the audio file and then"show file in finder" then unlock the file or change the permissions there. No need to make more data and use up your drive.
