First of all, congratulations on buying Logic Studio! You'll definitely get your money's worth out of it, and buying Logic supports further Logic development, which we all want to see. Thank you. 🙂

Installing Logic shouldn't touch your Components folder (which is where AU's are stored), so any AUs you have should remain untouched. The new version will scan your existing AUs and you'll be fine.

However, if you've been having problems with some AUs, now might be a good time to uninstall them (or if you're running unauthorized AUs, might now be a good time to get rid of them too?). Also, if you plan to use Logic in 64-bit mode, be sure to scan your AUs while in 32-bit mode-Logic in 64-bit mode can't scan your 32-bit AUs.

Hope that help, and thanks for joining. 🙂

There really isn't a good reason to uninstall Logic other than to enter a new serial number or be sure you have ALL the files correctly installed.

If you juts want to enter your new correct serial, all you need to do is to remove the authorization file...

Here's how: find and move this file for Logic to the desktop (Do Not Trash it!):
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/ProAppsSystemID

Then enter the correct serial again when asked...

Finally, run Software Update and made sure Logic is completely up to date.

Hello George,
I have a similar problem having installed a Logic 9 on an Imac 3.06 and now migrated to a 3.20 ghz imac the Logic 9 requires authorization randomly especially if it is powered off at the wall socket. Here is what happens it comes up with the authorization icon if I open garage band the au pluigins stylist omnisphere ask for a code so question is if I dump ProAppsSystemID to the desktop at this stage will I have to reauthorize plugins as well? Strangely after the 3 reboot of the Imac Logic 9.02 or 9.1.1 or 9.1.3 works perfectly so question is what causes this so that I dont have to restart imac once still icon appears then on third or power on logic works everything is ok? I reinstalled just logic then trashed preference files then did a fresh install and it all worked ok. Now this is an upgrade code from Logic 7/8 to Logic pro 9 not a full retail version so the logic 7 white key is present during installation but my friend who also has an upgrade code may have mistakenly put in a wrong code so any advice. Funny thing is when logic is running ok on third attempt the AU's in DP 7.2 ARE ok as well as cubase 5 but as soon as the authorization logic icon comes on in DP the AU'S like omnisphere stylist go demo mode
