Logic Pro USB Multi-Track Recording From Midas M32R to Logic Pro 11.0 - Best Practices/Steps

Does anyone have a step-by-step sheet for recording to Logic 11 from a Midas M32R?

We will have 24 tracks in the session.
We're running Logic 11.
The M32 has the latest firmware updates.
We don't need to use the Midas as a control surface or use the M32's Virtual Soundcheck system.
We don't need the audio to come back to the M32 after we record in logic.
We just need to cleanly and correctly capture the 24 tracks from the M32R into Logic.

Thanks in advance.

FIrst of all, connect the Mac and M32 R per USB cable.
Open Audio Midi Setup and make sure the M32 is showng as an audio device. This of course requires that drivers have been installed, I am assuming this is the case
Once you can see the M32 in Audio Midi Setup, start logic.
Open Logic Pro-Settings-Audio and select the Midas as your audio input device
Create a new logic project, I would suggest selecting ascending Audio Inputs (starting with channel 1). If you want to record the first 24 channels of the Midas, let logic create 24 tracks. These should be showing each with an ascending Inout, from 1 to 24.
Run some line checks to ensure that signals are getting through and the logic channel strips correspond to the Midas channels.
Prior to recording for real, I would suggest running some tests, record 24 tracks into logic a few times for the expected duration of the recordings you will be making, just to ensure that everything is performing as expected.

FWIW I have made several live recordings using both the Midas M32 and Behringer x32, into Logic as well as using the SD slots on the DN32 Live card, all worked well.

Good luck!

kind regards

Thanks Mark. Question - is there a reason that we'd select the M32 as a Midi device vs. a standard audio device?

Also, would the M32 normally just show up as an audio device in Logic? We normally use an A&H SQ and it is listed as an audio device when it's powered on and connected to Logic.

There is no reason to select it as a midi device. It is an audio device. Yes, you are right:-It should appear in logic as an audio device - assuming you have installed drivers. If not, you can download them here: Midas | Downloads

Apps don't require drivers, external audio hardware usually does - unless it is class compliant. AFAIK the M32 is not, but you can try connecting it and see if it is recognised.

Mark, just to update you - I did not find any drivers in the Midas M32 area via the link above that are for a Mac. All of the drivers listed in that queue are .exe (ie Windows executables) and will not run on the MacOS. If you know of a Mac-specific driver in that which we might have not found, would sure appreciate a link. Thanks, Brad

Sorry if I mislead you Brad, it seems that core audio will indeed recognise the M32 as an audio interface without having to install drivers (it's been a few years since I set it up with my Mac, but rest assured, it works). Did you try just connecting it? The USB slot is on the DN 32 card right next to the SD slots.

kind regards

We haven't tried it yet, but will this afternoon. The show we need to record is tonight. We'll plug it in to the USB andd cross our fingers. Hopefully it works!

Thanks again Mark for the guidance. So very much appreciated.
