Logic Pro 8 Using Midi drum kit to trigger EXS 24 - controlling hi hat sample

Hi,
Can anyone help with this...
I'm using a Yamaha electronic drum kit to trigger EXS 24 samples.
Everything works great but I can't work out how to make the Hi Hat controller to close and open the hi Hat.

Basically when the controller is up the open hi-hat sample needs to be long and then cut off as soon as the pedal is pressed.

Simplest way:

Normally the hi hats on exs24 instruments are on the same (monophonic) channel, so a closed hi hat stops the open hi hat.

So if you program your pedal to play a closed hi hat (F#1 ?) it will close the open hi hat. Alternatively a pedal hat (G#1) on the pedal down may sound better depending on the actual sample.
