Logic Pro View piano roll or notation window while I record on another track

I”ve made a guide track that I want to see in piano roll view while I record on an audio track. I can’t seem to do it. If I don’t highlight that guide track, no notes appear. There is a kind of conflict with the target track I want to record on in terms of highlighting, it seems. I’ve tried unhighlighting the catch in the separate window view. I know this must be basic, but I don’t get it. It seems like common sense that you should be able to record enable one track and view another. I asked this question before but cannot find the thread/answer.

Yea click on the guide track and display it in the editor. Then turn off link ( Chain button in the editors local menu). It is probably set to yellow or purple... Just turn it off.
Then click once on the track you want to record and you should be able to record while seeing your guide track, make sure catch is turn on too
